Tamiya 58618 RC Monster Beetle

The Monster Beetle assembly kit re-release version features a number of updates while preserving the basic layout of the original off-road car introduced in 1986. Boasting a realistic customized Beetle body depicted in tough polystyrene resin, the kit includes metal-plated parts for the finishing touches on handles and headlight frames. Topping it off is a resin driver figure.

At the heart of this hardy model is a rear-wheel drive chassis based around a durable ABS space frame, built to withstand all-action off-road driving. The 4-wheel independent suspension utilizes CVA oil dampers, with double wishbone setup at the front and trailing arm configuration at the rear. Providing superlative cushioning and grip are 130mm-diameter, 58mm-width lug pattern pin spike tires mounted on flashy gold-colored plated wheels. Efficient and durable universal shafts come equipped with rubber boots.

Measuring 410mm in length, 285mm in width, and 240mm in height, with a wheelbase of 247mm and tread of 220mm (front) and 225mm (rear), the Monster Beetle features a 3-bevel differential gear, 2-piece steering tie-rod, and a gear ratio of 14.7:1. Powering this off-road machine is a Type 540 motor paired with an electronic speed controller.

The rugged original ABS space frame chassis has been retained, complemented by double-wishbone front and trailing arm rear suspension setups working in tandem with CVA oil-filled dampers. Many of the original stickers have been kept, alongside newly-designed markings, while the injection-molded plastic body accurately captures the form of the early Volkswagen Beetle.

To complete the assembly, users will need to provide a battery, charger, speed control, servo, radio system, paint, and assemble the kit.
