Tamiya, a renowned player in the modeling business, ventured into the industry in 1948, introducing a scale wooden ship model kit. Since then, the company has been dedicated to offering products that truly embody the title of "First in Quality Around the World." Today, Tamiya boasts a vast product portfolio of over 300 diverse offerings, spanning both precision static models and high-performance radio-controlled vehicles. These products are not only sold domestically in Japan but also exported in large quantities to international markets, including the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, and numerous other regions worldwide. The excellence achieved by Tamiya is widely regarded as being among the finest in the world of model hobbies.
Inspired by the 1-seater buggies that were tearing up dirt tracks across the United States in the 1980s, the Grasshopper made its debut in R/C stores in 1984. Touting easy assembly and user-friendly control, the lightweight Grasshopper quickly became a hit as the quintessential entry-level R/C kit. Compatibility with a wide array of optional parts, such as a 540 motor and ball bearings, further enhanced the Grasshopper's appeal, allowing owners to customize and upgrade the car to match their driving experience.
Packed with all the fantastic features of the original kit, this fun 2WD buggy is a blast on both off-road and on-road tracks. Whether it was your first or will be your first, the Grasshopper is guaranteed to please. The perfect combination of simple assembly and a tough exterior is what made the Grasshopper so special. The durable plastic body is securely fastened to a bathtub resin monocoque chassis by screws, creating a solid frame that can withstand even the most rugged handling.
Off-road tracks can be tackled with ease thanks to the coil spring dampers and independent swing axle front and rigid axle rear suspension. The diff-loaded sealed gearbox keeps out dirt and stones, ensuring smooth driving and cornering. The paddle-style rear tires and grooved front tires, combined with the 3-piece assembly-type wheels, provide excellent grip performance on dirt tracks. The half-body driver figure adds the finishing touch to this fun off-road R/C car.
Tamiya, the leader in hobby products around the world, is known for its commitment to using the highest quality components and materials. The company's products undergo rigorous testing for durability and safety, ensuring that each kit is not only a joy to assemble but also a reliable performer. The Grasshopper, as an assembly-type construction, is designed for off-road use and features a 2WD rear-wheel-drive configuration. It is compatible with a 380-type motor, and owners can further upgrade to a 540-type motor, sold separately. To complete the Grasshopper, users will need to acquire a 7.2V battery, a charger, and a 2-channel radio gear, as well as TS plastic model paint.
